My Favorite Devotional

I have never found a devotional that speaks to my heart more than Streams in the Desert. Sean picked up an old 1945 copy at a used book store when I was pregnant with Lydia.  I was afraid it would bore me or I would lack the spiritual mind to understand it. I have grown in my reading skills and find everyday encourages me. What I think is so awesome is it's a signed copy from the missionary herself!

Mrs. Lettie.B. Cowman (1870-1960) and her husband, Charles E. Cowman (-1923), were missionaries in Japan and China from 1901 to 1917, during which period they helped found the Oriental Missionary Society. After her husband‘s death Mrs. Cowman wrote a nine books.

This was Mrs. Cowman’s first book. It was published in 1925. Two years after her husband‘s death and thirteen years after Dr. Miller‘s death. What an amazing woman! The collection of poems, her thoughts and excerpts from many different authors will bless you!

Check out todays reading or buy the book for your collection at home. It is entirely worth it!

    1. I have heard tons of great things about this devotional. I'll have to get my hands on a copy :)

    2. It's also my favorite and the one I go to on my worst days for comfort and wisdom. I am amazed when I look through it and see the dates and struggles I've written down, that I have now completely forgotten about. Prayers that were answered that I forgot about. It's as close as I've gotten to keeping a prayer journal. I have an old copy in the original language with pages falling out that I adore.

    3. Amen! The only copy I have is the old one, so I just can't bear to write in it. I do write down many quotes in my journal though. :) God's word is SO GOOD!

    4. this has always been my favorite devo. Have yet to find one that I go through each year as I do this one! So glad you have one too! miss you!

    5. Maybe someone can help me. I found an old book Streams In The Desert, 1945 with all kind of writings in it..such as notes and dates and poetry. Also appears to be signed by a Lattia B Cowman? It also has written in ink "Mrs.W.D. Crouse" and then below it says.."Dear Ethel, Happy Bithday to you" and then signed "Mother" Can anyone tell me who Ethel is? It has many dated notes from in the 1940's thru 1954 ..If anyone is interested in helping me I would appreciate it.
