Parenting; 14 Gospel Principles by Paul David Tripp {Book Review & Giveaway!}

This book has come at the most appropriate time for me as a parent. I recently have become very weary of all God as asked of me. From raising two teenagers, two in between, and three toddlers... many days feel like throwing in the towel- or at them! No seriously, I was very encouraged reading Paul Tripp's advice. There is not "how to" or follow these "steps" and it will fix your family. Each chapter focuses on a gospel principle.

In the beginning of each chapter, he describes parenting scenario that will echo truth, make you laugh, and see how your in your struggles are VERY similar to many others.  I am reminded that we are walking our children through their own sanctification and it is not my job to change them, but the power and mercy of God. I am only half way through the book, but know I can fully recommended it to you. We all need a dose of reality. The reality of how God can intervene and rescue us (and our children) when we both feel helpless and weak.

About Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles that can Radically Change Your Family
In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children, it’s easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.

In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God—grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents. Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children’s hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.

About Paul Tripp
Paul David Tripp is a pastor, author and conference speaker. He is the president of Paul Tripp Ministries and works to connect the transforming power of Jesus Christ to everyday life. This vision has led Paul to write 17 books on Christian living, produce 14 teaching series and travel around the world speaking at events. Paul's driving passion is to help people understand how the gospel of Jesus Christ speaks with practical hope into all the things people experience in this broken world.

Paul was born in Toledo, Ohio, and his parents had recently come to faith in Christ and were very excited about parenting as believers. Even though the Tripp's were committed to having daily family worship and attending church whenever the doors were open, Paul's family was not without significant struggle. God used these experiences to build in Paul a desire to see the Gospel applied to the realities of life in a fallen world.

Paul attended Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University) and majored in Bible and Christian Education. He went on to receive his M.Div from the Reformed Episcopal Seminary and his D.Min in Biblical Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary.

Throughout his life, Paul has planted a church, founded a Christian school, wrote worship songs and toured with a Christian band. He was a faculty member at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF) for many years, a lecturer in Biblical Counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary, a Visiting Professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a pastor at Tenth Presbyterian Church.

Paul launched his own ministry in 2006. With a pastor's heart for pastors, he is also the Executive Director of The Center for Pastoral Life and Care.

He lives in Philadelphia and is hopelessly in love with his wife, Luella. They have four grown children.
