Melting Rainbow Crayons

In the past we have made muffin tin crayons or ironed them on waxed paper, but when I saw this on Pinterest I knew the kids would LOVE it!

I scored when I found a canvas at Goodwill for $1.99 and cheap box of crayons! The example used a box of 64, but I used only 24 because my canvas was not as big. :)

Here was the result. Just hot glue them on and have fun melting. The kids preferred the finished product "upside down" like it is on "fire". Note: it does dry very fast!

Hadassah did get a quick nose wipe after the picture! lol

Curly Girly!

My dear Hadassah has the cutest curls!!! I LOVE THEM!

All my kids at this age had a few, but I think hers are here to stay (I hope!)

I am learning now conditioner is very important. After nap/bedtimes they twist up in little dreadlocks and don't feel good getting brushed out!

I snapped photos the other night after a bath (just in case) they don't stick around after her first hair cut!

{With baby due soon, I often get asked how old Hadassah is... and I usually "guess" because my brain feels like jello. For the record she is almost 19 months ;) What a cutie!}

I am only about two years or so behind on family photos!! Can you moms relate?? :-) I have Hadassah's baby book finished, but still need to order it (maybe) before little Mordecai arrives. We'll see.

Homeschool "Too Many Hats"

The blog title comes from a devotional I read in 101 Devotions for Homeschool Moms.

She speaks of our roles expanding "exponentially" the more kids we have. Last week and the beginning of this week, were very hard days for me. I have lost motivation to plan and teach my kids. Since August they probably have done about 3 weeks of "homeschool". After trying to pick of the pieces and "restart" again, I felt has if I was sinking/ drowning (whatever you want to call it) and barley able to keep my head above water.

I CAN'T homeschool 4 different grades while being 9 months pregnant and stay sain in the the process. I will spare you my drama story. I love teaching and it would be so easy if all my "students" where at the same level but they are not.

So, back to considering public school I went. At least for the next 6 months wouldn't be so bad! I could teach Jason at home and prayerfully get the other kids at school by 8:15am. I opened my struggle slightly on Facebook and was very encouraged by many comments. The only sad thing was... besides two precious homeschool moms, those encouraging me were parents whose kids are public school (or those who have done both!) :-) Maybe those that homeschool think I was committing the "ultimate sin"!

Just kidding. Either way I just found it interesting. I was blessed by the support.

So where did I land this time???

Sean and I had a REALLY good conversation about our family. And I mean GOOD. We realized with all of the moving our "vision" was lacking. God always puts me in position of complete weakness, when Sean realizes he better get his act together or it is not going to look good. This Mama was falling apart!!

Sean shared with me (and the kids) his goals for our family. One, in which, was our children to be homeschooled. Was I upset? No. But, he realized I needed more support and help.

NOTE: I have a friend who very much desired to homeschool and her husband did not approve. At the time I thought it was sad, but I have seen her heart to submit and honor him. They have been a very blessed family. The Lord has always used her as an example for me to follow.

This week Sean stepped up to the plate.. more than I could ever imagined! He sat down each child separately for a little "conference". He had an age appropriate check list for "what the should know" by their grade level. It should have been recorded. Their answers were adorable!

Every morning this week he made a list (not scheduled by time) but things he wanted the kids to accomplish. Scheduled math time, certain books to read, different task with different siblings, certain things to look up on the computer, bible time or coloring....

Thank you Lord! In this season, the need was HUGE. I can say.. "Dad wants you to" or "lets finish before Dad comes home". I also wrote down notes for him to read on how our day went. (what worked, what didn't , disciplinary moments, positive moments, ect.) He also has been correcting their math assignments every evening.

I know I am not alone. I love my husband. I love that he is aware of their education. His support means the world to me. Day by day.. by Gods grace.

Crochet Happenings @ 36 Weeks

Here is Mommy and Mordecai at 36 weeks. He is going to bless us with his presence soon! God is so good. I am happy to share Sean got a job at OSU today too! Thank you Lord!

As often as I can I try to find some peace and quiet to crochet. I have been working on Mordecai's new blanket.. thanks to Grandma for purchasing the yarn :) I smile every time I think of holding him... can't wait!! Especially, since my oldest boy is 11 years old today (((deep breath)))).

Also, I am still working on this beautiful "Flowers in the Snow" blanket. I started it last April... whew. Getting closer to finishing! Only 11 more circles to make. Thank you to Bekah for inspiring me. It has been a fun project. :)

Well, blogging time is over.

(My kids are having a mandatory 40 minute quiet reading. I need to read to little Hadassah!)

What a joy the snow was for the kids yesterday morning! The excitement exceeded even Christmas. We are enjoying our new home.. aka our new "pad" (More pictures to come!)

Trials and Rest

God hedges in His own that He may preserve them, but oftentimes they only see the wrong side of the hedge, and so misunderstand His dealings. It was so with Job (Job 3:23). Ah, but Satan knew the value of that hedge! See his testimony in chapter 1:10. Through the leaves of every trial there are chinks of light to shine through. Thorns do not prick you unless you lean against them, and not one touches without His knowledge. The words that hurt you, the letter with gave you pain, the cruel would of your dearest friend, shortness of money--- they are all known to Him, who sympathizes as none else can and watches to see, if, though all, you will dare to trust Him wholly." Streams in the Desert 1947, January 12th.

It has been over one month since we left North Carolina. If I had any foreknowledge to what trials were ahead: I doubt, because I am selfish by nature, I would have not come.

But our hope remains steadfast in God.

I hit a very low point and could not understand why God was silent. My faith was stretched in ways like never before. My trust in Him was exhausted. I feared each day. Every evening I was weary. Sleep was a blessing because it allowed me to "forget" my circumstances. Even our marriage was put to the test, especially when I took my anger out on Sean.

Each time we were literally at a breaking point, God sustained us. Usually the following day we heard some type of "rental opportunity" that would carry us to the next after that door closed. After about a month of living in a suitcase and not knowing where my home was going to be He opened the door. He will never leave nor forsake us, but I did fear the worst. Sean likened the feeling to what persecuted christians must feel. They want it to end, but it doesn't. Prayer and the word of God become their stronghold. Nothing else.

So where did we land? A very sweet family is let us rent an apartment above their garage, which is lovely and warm. It will also finically help us to get back on our feet.

God is keeping us humble and reminding us of our desire to simplify. There is a reason I we did not end up in a huge 1800 sq ft plus home. Really, how much space to we American families need? We have a beautiful 900-1000 sq ft home with three rooms (not including the bathroom!) One great room which is the kitchen, living, and homeschool room. One parent room and one kid room. :-) ... I am looking forward to showing you the bunkbeds Sean made to accommodate 5 kids! Some may think we are crazy, but after you feel or are homeless for weeks you are happy to have a place to call your "own". We are in no rush to leave, neither are our landlords. :) The kids have a huge hard to play in and mom has gorgeous rolling hills to enjoy.

We actually managed to get out our homeschool this week... praise the Lord!
I started Mordecai's baby blanket and a new book.
Made play dough with Jason and Elizabeth today and read to the kids at lunch time.
I am so thankful just to enjoy the simple rest of being "home" with my kids again.

Many times over this past month I read and re-read 2 Chronicles 20. It is a beautiful chapter that kept me looking to Jesus..

I honestly can't even think of a title for this blog. My mind is mush. Question marks summarize it good enough.

I wish I was writing "Year in Review Christmas Blog", sipping tea by a warm fire as my children we fast asleep.. yet

I have spent every moment on the computer searching craigslist, gazzette times, property management companies for a home for our family. I know the Lord was telling me to stop a long time ago, but ones mind cannot rest when you don't know where your "home" will be next. If you have read on facebook Seans job status is such that we cannot prove our "three times the amount of rent" for income. Those that have considered us turned us away because of better offers. It ridiculous when you are willing to give people (in my mind) a ton of money upfront and they still won't let you rent.

(For the update the kids are doing amazing. As I mom, I have been so concerned they would be in fear of the future, but it has not seem to faze them one bit. They only time they seem slightly concerned is when I am crying. They even pray "please give Mom and Dad a home" (huge lump in throat when I typed that). They know we will take care of them no matter what. They know God will take care of them too.)

Last night I was done. God was silent again. Door closed.

I was driving 'home' with the family in the rain, bawling my eyes out. Desperate to understand why this was happening in my life... then (in my mind) blaming my husband.

A year ago, I looked as if I had a perfect life: No debt. Nice big home (furniture). Running 5ks. Blogging. Crocheting. Had lots of friends. Was a Pastors Wife...ect ect..

Yet inside we were struggling. BIG time. Struggling for quite awhile. Church ministry was consuming our life and our conviction were such that we so desired to raise our children apart from it all. We needed the freedom to pull back from church activities (if need be) and we were not able to in Seans position. Activities were not the only reason, but one to say the least.

And on my drive home.. that is what I was questioning. WHY? why couldn't my husband just do it all? he had a good job..home..salary..
I was weeping for many reasons. But sad too because I did not want the enemy to put this as vice between my husband and I.

Reality is: I love my husband. I will support Him where ever the Lord leads. If He makes a mistake.. I will still love him. I will do all in my power to help him and not tear him down.

By the end of the evening we made one more call. We explain our situation thoroughly now before we view a home because we don't want to waste anyone's time. This call was it. He was nice, willing to work with us and after viewing the home was excited for us to rent.

I slept good. I awoke happy. Sean and I both knew though we had to wait for the complete "yes".

The verdict happened tonight at 8pm: He is the middle man. Not the owner. On the application it said only rent and deposit were needed. Since others were interested he said the owner wanted last months rent too. Which was the closed door. Sorry we could not afford it.

I didn't cry this time. as at least God gave us a little relief for the day.

Praise the Lord for friends who have graciously opened their homes.Whether they are out of town or house sitting...
we have some temporary options at least..I am thankful for.

Please continue to pray for us. My prayer really only consist of two words now: "Please God.."

Here We Go.. Again

Heard of the song: "There She Goes Again" By Sixpence, well.. it has been replaying in my mind over and over except.. "Here we go... Here we go again.. da da da da.."

There is nothing in me/or my strength that could make this move.

It is all Jesus.

He has faithfully been holding me in ways I can not express.

Most (all) moves I resist. Cry. Feel sorry for myself. Get Angry. Or scream "I will never do this again!

He directs my steps. I may try to plan, but it is His will that is done.
May my heart always submit to him.

I have stopped counting the number of moves.. it is not healthy. We don't know what a day may bring. :-

There and Back Again: A Buckout Tale

Once upon a time a young man, his wife, and 5 youngin's went to a far away land...

just kidding. I do feel like I could write a book about our own journey. Not just our journey to North Carolina, but the last 11 years plus of our marriage.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor 5:7

Since Sean's job situation has changed, we really began to questioned whether we wanted to stay in North Carolina or if God wanted us too. We have missed Oregon tremendously, but more than anything we want to be in the will of God.... Not running to and fro trying to find our "heaven here on earth". We have likened it to an endless 7 month family vacation. (Of course not a free one!) But honestly we expressed to the Lord we ready to be back "home".

Over Thanksgiving weekend we knew we could not keep waiting for every door to open "perfectly". Often we think of God handing us our desires (Psalm 37:4) on a silver platter without being tried or chastened in the process. He is a God of mercy and enduring love. He longs to teach us about Him and give Him glory not matter what our circumstances. This can take time much time, patience, surrender, tears, and even pain.

We have spent an entire month seeking and inquiring of the Lord (which is not long, but can certainly feel long). A few opportunities have arose, but none fully concrete. I was tossing and turning the other night, knowing He may just have a move on without a job, home, or money. But why?? That would be stupid. I don't want to be foolish and I certainly don't want to look like a fool. Sure enough God was speaking the same thing to my husband. Sean knew we had to make those steps to go back... in faith. (Side note: It is amazing to see all God has done in my husband through this season. To walk with Christ while having a "normal" job and continuing to raise/lead his family was an entire new experience. To "practice what he preached" for so many years was put to the test here in NC without a doubt. Sean could have an entire other blog on the subject.)

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Thus, the process started. We have dear friends in Oregon that offered their home to us for a few weeks while they are gone on vacation. It is our next holding spot. Our plan: get there, find a job, and a new home. What about all our belongings? What about the home we just purchased?

As of right now I sold our "big" couch. And the dining room table. The piano is gone. The desk is gone. Chairs gone. Dressers gone. Tons of clothes gone. In a few days my all my dishes will go. We even drove our two kitties to a new home (an amazing answer to prayer). It is the biggest, most freeing purge of my life! We plan to only bring back a 12x6 uhaul trailer. We are happy unpacking will be nice and easy :-)

The biggest relief today was God provided a renter for our home that we are completely comfortable with! (((Deep breath)))).. It was such a blessing. I was afraid it would not happen BUT it did.

Now, with the weeks before us... We trust fully God will provide. How much more I am learning my expectation comes from Him alone. Sean has a possible job lead with a friends business, but besides that.. he be job and house hunting before and after Christmas. We are excited to be back in Corvallis, see friends and family again. We are excited to rest as a family. Rest in Gods hands. He is answering our prayers and our children are witnessing God goodness. They have their bags already packed for the road trip. They love hotel swimming pools. ;)

It is His plan for our lives. We have learned and will continue to learn so many life lessons. All in which, if the Lord tarries we will teach to our children.

Thank you for praying and pouring your love out to our family! Please continue to pray for Gods provision and employment for Sean. Of course too, for a new home ..before little Mordecai joins the crew! He has already captured his mommy's heart.

One More Post

Thought I would get one more post up before then end of the month. Blogging has been on the back burner for me as of late.

Most of time has been spent purging, putting items up for sale, and job searching for my husband. All with much prayer and supplication. Yes, the cloud is moving again and we will follow where it leads. More to come later... ;-)

We did however have a splendid Thanksgiving! It was the first in 4 years with just our kids. Praise the Lord for skype so we felt connected to family. Sean took the kids for a walk while I finished prepping the turkey and after dinner we watched Evan Almighty. Toward the end of the movie I ended up on the floor playing Legos with Hadassah. It was fun and relaxing.

Part of the walk with dad was picking soy beans. They came home and shelled them all. The next day I joined them for the same walk.

On a more recent note-- Sunday afternoon we had a news reporter come and interview Elijah for his recent contest win. See the news video here! He has been pretty stoked about his "runner up" prize (click to see!). He waited so long to see if he was a winner. He really gave it to the Lord and was such an example to us. It was a week past the announcement date and I got a the voicemail. He was at work with Dad... it was so exciting to call and share the BIG NEWS! He said it made knots in his stomach. :-)

(Which is another event this month. The kids all got to experience a little work day with dad. It was strange every day to have one missing! Talk about different dynamics.)

Jay all set to go!

And I am officially 28 weeks today!!! Baby Mordecai is getting BIG. Elizabeth was 9lb 9oz and I have a feeling he will be going for the record. Praise the Lord, I am still able to sleep lying down and I thank Jesus every night I am able. From about this point on, there is much surrendering and it becomes an uphill battle. He is my strength! What a reward I get at the end!

Bonfires at the Buckouts

These pictures are from last week, but tonight our bonfire looked very similar! It was gigantic.
Out here as "country folk" we take our trash to the dump (purchase $2.50 stickers for every 30 gal).
Then the City will come and get our recycling and ANYTHING burnable we burn!

We keep her a safe distance away!

Whenever Sean starts the fire I always think of the movie Castaway..lol see below!

Wish I had video of the kids jumping on the trampoline. They love jumping in the glow of the fire. Tonight's games included a flashlight while jumping which made things even more crazy!! :)

Our Joy Comes From Him

Despite our current situation and endless job hunting we are still remembering to rejoice in the Lord! We had a great weekend with the kids and celebrated our Little Elizabeth's birthday. She asked for a fish cake and a trip the the aquarium. It was our first visit to the North Carolina Aquarium. It was a precious day. Aquarium. Little Caesars. Cake and Presents.

(Let me just say Elizabeth has been counting down the days till her 7th birthday.

She stared 83 days ago! She was more than giddy!!)

The kids always design their own cakes for me ;-) I do my best!

Before we knew of Seans work issues, we purchased a trampoline. Thank you Lord! It has been a great outlet and exercise for the kids. Even little Hadassah loves running around in circles. It is a great way for them to burn up extra energy... (which was previous being used in sibling fighting)! The most thrilling time for the kids is when dad "comes out and jumps" with them... what a fun dad!

Life Update.

Well, if you are one of my Facebook friends you might have read my recent post... and if not here ya go:

"please pray God would provide a job for Sean. we are being stretched. his current position went to commission (which has no base pay.. a "minor" detail they didn't tell us before we moved here!!.. long story) we can not make it on commission pay. we are open Lord! please friends if you have any connections.. let us know. holding on to Jesus."

I am letting the curser blink for a moment because I am not sure what to say.

Life is full of surprises for our family. As much as Sean and I try to "plan" our future we never can. My first reaction (in my mind) to his drop in income was "ahh! I would NOT have moved out here if I knew my husband would be getting paid slightly above NC minimage wage!!" We truly had Gods perfect peace. We knew "the cloud was moving" to North Carolina and He was leading.

To drive thousand of miles with our children was an amazing experience. Our desire was to s l o w n d o w n. Praise the Lord we have! Also, we were blessed to mortgage a new home because he did have his current job. The loan was able to process only because he had worked for the same vending company before becoming a pastor. (We needed at least two years of current employment.)

So what is next for our family?

and can I ask you to pray?

Sean is looking for a new job. He is also considering going to school as an Apprenticeship Lineman. This way (if excepted to the school) he can be earning money and becoming trained at the same time. Yet, this still includes finding a job before apprentice applications start in January.

Of course this may include moving.

As a wife this is where I surrender to Jesus.

I trust my husband. I trust he is a man of God. I will support him wherever God leads.

If we do move, our home will become a rental and well.. honestly... VERY LITTLE will come with us. Am I sad? At first I was, but I know where ever we end up, our eternity will be in heaven. ;) Praise God our children are little adventurers themselves! I cannot thank you enough for praying.

Homemade Butcher Block

Here is our homemade butcher block (for the counter). Thanks go out to my hubby who purchased this simple board at Lowes and stained it with Watco food grade stainer. Took a few coats and then washed it with warm soapy water.

It is perfect for dough making, pizza slicing and just my daily wear and tear. I did remind my husband that in a few months it won't look as nice ;). Simple and sweet. Thank you Lord.

"For we know that if our earthly house of
this tabernacle were dissolved,

we have a building of God, an house not made with hands,
eternal in the heavens" (2 Cor. 5:1)

The owner of the tenement which I have occupied for many years has given notice that he will furnish but little or nothing more for repairs. I am advised to be ready to move.

At first this was not a very welcome notice. The surroundings here are in many respects very pleasant, and were it not for the evidence of decay, I should consider the house good enough. But even a light wind causes it to tremble and totter, and all the braces are not sufficient to make it secure. So I am getting ready to move.

It is strange how quickly one's interest is transferred to the prospective home. I have been consulting maps of the new country and reading descriptions of its inhabitants. One who visited it has returned, and from him I learn that it is beautiful beyond description; language breaks down in attempting to tell of what he has heard while there. He says that, in order to make an investment there, he has suffered the loss of all things that he owned here, and even rejoices in what others would call making a sacrifice. Another, whose love to me has been proven by the greatest possible test, is not there. He has sent me several clusters of the most delicious fruits. After tasting them, all food here seems insipid.

Two or three times I have been down by the border of the river that forms the boundary, and have wished myself among the company of those who were singing praises to the King on the other side. Many of my friends have moved there. Before leaving they spoke of my coming later. I have seen the smile upon their faces as they passed out of sight. Often I am asked to make some new investments here, but my answer in every cast is, "I am getting ready to move". --Selected

The words often on Jesus' lips in His last days express vividly the idea, "going to the Father". We, too, who are Christ's people, have vision of something beyond the difficulties and disappointments of this life. We are journeying towards fulfillment, completion, expansion of life. We, too, are "going to the Father." Much is dim concerning our home-country, but two things are clear. It is home, "the Father's House." It is the nearer presence of the Lord. We are all wayfarers, but the believer know it and accepts it. He is a traveller, not a settler.

Homesick

It has officially hit me. I am trying my best not to speak of the subject too much (especially around the kids). Fall is my favorite time of year. I remember last year running downtown to meet my family at the library, breathing in the cold wet air, and admiring all the beautiful trees. Oh all the familiars. Library... Beanery... Parks.... Grandparents...(((((Deep Breath))))) Hold back the tears JuRita.

The emotions of yet another life change have caught up with me and I have to verbally tell my self to keep my eyes on the Lord. Every day. Today it rained which helped.

For the past two weeks it has been warm here in North Carolina (average 80 degrees), but the mosquitos are overly vicious. When walking to the van (no running I should say!) they swarm by everyones face like crazy. Then, before we pull away we kill any that managed to get inside. I have felt trapped indoors all while living on an acre..... IN OCTOBER! ERG.

Last night we tried to fog our deck, put on spray, and lite a Citronella candle. It was a beautiful 10 minutes with Sean and Lydia. I got bit about 5 times. What in the world do they do in Africa??? I am sure they don't complain.

I guess since we moved to NC they have had worst heat and hurricane. Our family is praying for the worst winter yet. If not, we still have plans to visit my family in Chicago for some "cold" weather.

Can I have one last complaint? We don't live in the most "family" friendly community. Most events are geared to the elderly or retired folk. Drive about two hours we could find all kinds of museums, farms, zoos, ect. They do have an aquarium here.. we are saving that for Elizabeths bday.

So, I am trying. I am doing the best I can to make things fun for the kids. They are at a house church tonight while I am at home with baby. Praise the Lord they are meeting new friends. Praise the Lord He is putting more of a yearning in me for heaven! I am learning to be content no matter what "state" I am in...

It may take a couple of years for this to feel like home, but I know someday it will. Good news, we are getting 25 chicken next month. Yes, my husband ordered them and 5 are meat chickens. :-/ And hopefully this winter we are going to get my sisters dog Bekah. The Buckout's little farm.

Trusting in the Kitchen

About two years ago, I started to realized I needed to let my daughters learn on their own in the kitchen (Read this blog here). At times I bake with both my girls, other times I let them do it on their own. It has paid off-- the family enjoys all the goodies! See some of Lydia's recipes here and here. :)

Monday afternoon she set off to make me a birthday cake. She asked that I frost it and when doing so I noticed it was a little flat.

"Lydia, did you put baking powder in the cake?"
"Uhhh.. No Mom."
We both smiled.

None the less, it tasted yummy and dense. ;)

Dad snapped this shot on his phone real quick during the baking process.

Here is the final product. I had a wonderful 32nd birthday!

20 Weeks! Half Way There

This pregnancy is cruising along. I have an ultra sound on Friday and will reveal whether it will be a boy or girl. This time YES! we chose as a family to find out and the kids are thrilled. Girls may rule the house or it will be even steven with a boy... we'll see!

Sean got a new lawn mower this week and started the long awaited work on our "property". For fun we let the kids roam on the other lots for sale too. Dad even made some trails through the tall grass for the kids to run through. Fox holes (the kids dig), stick piles, and now clay bricks are already in the process. My kids love the outdoors and I love letting their creative minds flourish. We might even have a bonfire tonight and roast marshmallows;) (But don't let me fool you.. this day was far from perfect. We worked on getting a few chores done today and it took 2 hours! I was ready to quit and send them to school... can I say that??deep breath.)

Well, slowly but surely this is feeling more like home.
I still can't believe we'll have another life joining us in 20 weeks!

Oh, I realized how I missed my hobby of blogging and reading blogs of my dear friends!!! I am happy to report we finally have the internet. I guess we live "out in the sticks" and because our home is on a new street, those companies who rely on Google Maps had a very hard time wanting to give us service.

Thank you for those who have been praying for us. We realized that good friendships are few and miles can separate the best of friends. :( (Even with texting, email, and Facebook.) We are excited to possibly try out a home group next week at our new church, One Harbor. The teaching itself has been awesome and refreshing. The Lord will give a fellowship in His time.

Speaking of fellowship! My sister (and 4 of her 5 kiddos) came a few hours after I unpacked my last box. It has been a whirlwind of a week, but I am blessed beyond measure to have them visit. It was a joy to see everyone enjoying the company... even though it rained half the time and we were hunkered down in our small home. :-) BIG BUMMER.

My 31st Move.

The time has come for yet another move. My husband and I are "purchasing" a home today and pray it is a monumental moment to plant our roots deep in the ground. Here is how I got the number 31:

16 moves as a child + 15 moves in the 11 years I have been married

= 31 moves in my almost 32 years of life.

I have no bitterness or regret to as why these moves happened. Many times I have cried out to God with angry, grief and sadness at circumstances and questioned why.

BUT

holds me

carries me

reminds me

HE IS A SOVEREIGN LORD.

HE WILL DO WHAT PLEASES HIM

teaches me to surrender to His will and not my own.

I especially grieve for my children, but they have seen the faith of their parents and KNOW God is with us. Little Jason only 5 years, has moved 5 times himself. I praise God his first 3 1/2 years were in the same home.

So today we seek to "settle" but I fully surrender knowing this world is a temporary place. The Buckout Family longs for heaven were we will be in complete rest! But we praise and thank the Lord for such home to raise our children, have a garden, plant some trees, and serve our Lord together! We are even going to be attending a new church this Sunday, where I hope (in time) we can have fellowship with other believers.

I praise you dear Lord for always providing for us! Never leaving us without hope. YOU ALONE are our stability. I pray this home is a place we can raise our children, bring you glory, and share the gospel with those we meet. Every gift is from You! Amen.

Sibling Love

Word cannot express the joy I find in seeing my children love on their baby sister. God has used her life in so many ways and she is only 14 months! For four years having another child was a ridiculous notion. Following my own wisdom, our entire family would have missed her little smile, laughter and love. (((Deep Breath))) Thank you Lord.

More often and not, the girls race into Hadassah's room when they hear her waking up from a nap. When I do make it back before them, all the kids come running. Then follows "yay! Hadassah! Hadassah!" with jumping, clapping and dancing. This little girl is going to have a complex!

Lydia is always holding her sister. :) I realized when looking for pictures for this blog, I need to get more pictures with Hadassah and the other kids. They all love teaching, talking and playing with her daily.

With Jason, I do have to tell him to be gentle. Especially when he is trying to "knight" her with his sword. I was so blessed to see Hadassah rubbing his mohawk during a video the other day!

Elizabeth is constantly is giving her hugs and doing her best to take her places. I am shocked her little arms can carry her! Hadassah just recently started saying Elijah's name too. She gets really excited and bashful at the same time with him. So cute.

I only wish I had a way of recording all their interaction. Those who think we are "not normal" or "crazy" for having more kids do not get to be in home and relish these moments like we do! Yesterday over the phone, I had a lady from a Dr's office ask me a bunch of health questions. I thankfully said "no" to all of them. She responded (I am positive with a smile) , "So you are telling me your completely normal except for the fact you have 5 kids??!.. ha ha!" I think I laughed with her, but at the same time didn't know what to think. Its normal to me! Maybe not in the United States... Anyways, that was a side note!

I treasure all my babies! I smile to think of them getting to meet a new little friend in February. How fun it is to see how number six will fit in the bunch. Jason already said he will be the first to hold the baby. Elizabeth made sure I know that "since Lydia takes care of Hadassah all the time, she will get to take care new baby". ;) Lord give me wisdom to teach them our to "share" their new brother or sister!

Our Experience with Mean Irene

We made it through our first hurricane. Hopefully the next one won't come at all or at least wait another 3 years! We are all safe and healthy. We were stretched to our limit without power for 3 days, which means no AC at night. Some are still without, so I am very thankful.

We boarded our windows and made last preparations on Friday. All night it was a good rain storm. We awoke to branches and tree limbs all over our yard. In the morning it looked as if it wasn't going to get too horrible (we had no point of reference without the internet), but then it just didn't let up.... It stormed with rain and high winds for the next 12 hours! Our power went out about 10am and we made do the best we could for the next two long days and nights.

We serve a faithful God. He answered so many prayers of our friends! He kept us safe from a huge pine tree that fell in our front yard. Some neighbors knocked on our door and pointed out we better get out of the house. We ran across the street to our neighbors for safety. Sean decided to go back and get our van just in case it was blocked by the tree. :) The picture shows how little my 6' 4'' husband is to the monstrous leaning tree! The children were rejoicing it missed our house. Saturday night as the storm continued to blow we made our dinner by tea light and the warm Ramen tasted wonderful! (I did purchase a propane stove a day later because I did not know how long we would be without power.)

On Sunday, church of course was cancelled and the clean up began. I was so impressed how quickly everyone got to work. Any yard debri the city will clean up as long as it is put on the side of the road. Sean and the kids got to work on clearing the yard. Thankfully we rent so tree removal would not be at our expense. :) We have quite the pile!

The lady who lived in this house recently passed away. She had two trees fall on her home.

Mid through the day a Baptist Church Relief crew came through our neighborhood ready to help. It was such a blessing to see them give of their time to help others. It was great entertainment for everyone too!

Life is somewhat back to normal. We drove out to our new home and it didn't have any damage :) It looks as if we might even get in by next week. Oh, the twist and turn life takes! Thank you all again for praying for our family. Since moving here I have felt very alone at times and it was very comforting to know many of you were thinking of us :). God richly bless you!

I am not sure what to write but to just ask for your prayers. Here is a copy of my recent Facebook updates. We are located only 30 minutes from Morehead City. The exact spot they are predicting it to hit. Either way we are going to get some intense weather! I am also praying the home we are in the middle of purchasing will not be torn apart or severely damaged. It is even closer than us to the beach, but in a more open area.

  Rebekah Soriano when I was younger, yes. As an adult living in my own house, no. We also lived in Central Florida growing up not 3 miles from the coast as we are now. If its going to hit head on we're boarding up our windows and heading out. My aunt advised its very scarey for children :( My dad lives about 40 mins from you and has been through them there in that area. He said just watch for flooding. Praying for you! OH Yes, get a hurricane check list offline and stock up. Mostly water, batteries, non perishable foods, diapers wipes, medicines, cash, fuel, when its about to hit, fill your tubs and sinks with water. Have a battery powered radio and weather radio.

  JuRita Buckout I don't think we will board the windows. But in a few days (like everyone else) will stock up. I am concerned about the electricity going out because the humidity is a killer. I have to buy batteries for flashlight and we keep battery operated noise makers in the the kids room so they can sleep. Thank you for reminded me about water. Ya just never know. I will keep you posted. I am blessed by your concern! :)

  Rebekah Soriano Did you get my message? John didn't get home till almost 830 last night....so we skipped using the computer last night. We can try again tonight.
  I hadn't heard of the bathroom thing either until I called my aunt after this turned into a hurricane. She said because the water in the bath tub and sink can be used for washing dishes, flushing toliets, etc if the power goes out. She said at least 1 gallon per person per day of expected power outage for bottled water supply.
  Back in 99-00 when this area got hit by 4 hurricanes their power was out for almost 2 weeks. :( I'm not sure about your area since you're more inland. I guess just ask around to the neighbors.

  JuRita Buckout Believe me we did consider Janet! The new report says it is going to hit the outer banks (about an hour from here), so we are going to hunker down. I know we will see lots of rain and strong winds. I am happy it is going to start in the afternoon and not the middle of the night :) thank you all for praying! I did my shopping today and got gas for the van. I still need to get a few things, but I am feeling a little better about the entire event... It is kind of erie just waiting for it. He is in control of every wind!

My Real Homeschool Schedule

So last month a posted a Schedule for my Homeschool. I want to be honest and real. Below is what became of it one month later. And yes, I did confess (out loud) a few times "I quit. I can't do this.." All homeschool mothers come to this breaking point every year. Some more than others. I am on the "more" side;) Here is a quote from the book, A Mom Like You; Vickie shares how God spoke to her with the scripture she had posted in her living room.

"times of testing will be when the storms come: days when we are way off schedule, the kids are fighting, the phone is ringing off the hook and nothing seems to be going as I want it to. One particularly 'stormy' school day, I was frazzled to the point of explosion... I remember walking into the living room and just standing there looking at that picture, praying for God to give me the strength to keep going. I knew He wanted me to be home schooling my children, but I just needed
the reminder that He would enable me to carry out His will."

Every year for me has new lessons (spiritually/emotionally/academically) and new seasons (different grades/personalities/ages). I do what I can with the teachable moments and pray God uses it to the fullest!

~~Mom reads to Jason and Elizabeth~~ Reading the Bible to Everyone and pray

Morning walk with everyone (It has happened 2 times.. but hey! its happend! We like to pick up trash when we walk to the park.)

10-12noon

Jason-100 Easy Lessons, ABC, Numbers/Math ~~with Mom~~ (Jason has actually been doing more with Lydia and just reading with me.)

Elizabeth- Handwriting Math and Reading with Mom

~~Little Pilgrims History with Jason and Elizabeth~~ History at Lunch we everyone Story of the World Cir.

Elijah and Lydia- independent work: spelling, reading, phonics, grammar, cursive Not everyday do they get to all of this!

Elijah or Lydia makes snack at 10am and helps with lunch At least I know I can ask them now. I have done it a handful of times. :)

After lunch

~~Afternoon Chore and~~ Laundry Laundry immediately after lunch works good for us. If I can get them to pick up before Dad comes home we are doing good.

1-3pm
~~E and L: Math~~ They tend to finish this with their other quiet work

~~E and L: writing Lesson with Mom~~ Usually watch a movie, Fetch or Electric Co so I can rest. Or they go swimming.

~~Everyone: English Lesson, Story of the World History~~ See above

~~Mom checks Math corrections~~ I am always correcting the next day!

USDA Loan (Part 4)

Well we are set to close September 15th! Praying all goes well and timely. We are hoping we might get in sooner.

A sweet gal is ready to move into our place (and fulfill our lease) Oct 1st... yay!! So we will have to go somewhere, but trusting God he is going to work out all the details. He is our Provider.

I am amazed we will be able to have a mortgage payment almost $200 less than our rent here (hello!) and have a more energy efficient home! And not to mention I am excited to have a second bathroom again.. whew..Thank you Lord!

A New Favorite Dinner

During the month of July I tried some new recipes from a library book. I was pretty board and needed a little distraction. :)

This is my one of our new favorite dinners.

Delicious.

Simple.

Filling.

Good.

And the kids enjoyed it!

It is on the menu tonight with artisan bread and maybe I will add a salad (my midwife would approve).

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Ingredients

1 (12 ounce) package bow tie pasta

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 pound sweet Italian sausage, casings removed and crumbled

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1/2 cup diced onion

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 (28 ounce) can Italian-style plum tomatoes, drained and coarsely chopped

1 1/2 cups heavy cream (I used half and half)

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons minced fresh parsley (optional)

Directions

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook pasta in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes, or until al dente; drain.

Heat oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Cook sausage and pepper flakes until sausage is evenly brown. Stir in onion and garlic, and cook until onion is tender. Stir in tomatoes, cream, and salt. Simmer until mixture thickens, 8 to 10 minutes.

Stir cooked pasta into sauce, and heat through. Sprinkle with parsley.

USDA Loan (Part 3)

I know I have been quiet on the subject. Really just afraid to speak to soon.

We did not get the house we wanted. It was in an AE9 flood zone, which means pretty much your house is on stilts or you pay an arm and leg for flood insurance. Therefore, would have thrown off the ability to afford it. Bummer.

BUT.. there is always a but. We were considering what our options would be at this point and looking for some way to purchase a home without it being in a flood zone. The only home we were finding in our price range were foreclosures/ bank owned properties. Which one can purchase with a USDA loan, but the bank was no way going to pay for any improvements or closing costs. So, we again were hitting road blocks.

Sean and I neither want to strive with the Lord or make rash decisions. We have before and it does not produce good results. For us to "own" a home and live in a different town closer to his work would be a blessing to us financially. (Our mortgage would be cheaper than our rent and our electricity bill could be hundreds less.)

So, what is up next for us? We did find one house :) I really wanted to have more space, but I will take what I can get! This home is brand new and is the only one of two in a new subdivision. I don't see the home being built up quickly by any means! It is 3 bedrooms and 2 (praise the Lord!) bathrooms on almost an acre. The contract is all set in stone and approved! The seller is even willing to pay closing costs. I am all smiles. :) Maybe we can even add on someday.

BUT AGAIN.. we have had loans cease to be approved (one time a day before closing when we lived in Missouri). Yes, we got a pre-approval, but ya never know with this economy! Sean will be down at the lender today, processing the final information and paying appraisal fees. My heart crys out to the Lord. My friend Jennipher said it perfectly in her blog, "We have moved around a bit, enough to make a heart feel rootless."

I do look forward to my heavenly home, but truly want my kids to stay somewhere and grow up. Even to invest in this home for the purpose the Lord would only know.

Can I ask you to pray again, please? I know His work will be done. I fear the answer no. I fear having to look for another place to rent... I have even been worrying about the gal who is going to fulfill our lease .. what if she changes her mind??? I know this is from the enemy, but that is where I need prayer. To keep my eyes so intently focused on Jesus that whatever answer may come, He will not allow my foot to slip. Thus, to be continued...

Green Springs

Here is a fun swimming spot our family found via word of mouth call Green Springs. You won't find this one in any rec or city magazines. There are very little fun places to swim in our town, which is sad because it is on a huge river that connects with the Atlantic Ocean.

This spot was created by a man (who still lives on the property). He wanted to create a free place for kids to hang out in the heat and swim. He built the ENTIRE thing himself! His rule are as posted :)

Our kids were amazed how far you could walk out and not have it go above their waist. It only took a few times and encouragement from dad to get them to start jumping without help :)

Believe it or not, when we went a few weeks ago most of the kids got stung by little jellyfishes! They were every where in the water. The kids handle it so well!! No tears.. just "ouch.. i think I got stung mom"... As I see little red lines on them! Lets, just say our evening didn't last as long that night. FYI: Hadassah and I don't get in the water. We watch from the docks or on a blanket in the grass. She is content playing with the melting ice in the cooler. he he. She is not walking yet, so I have it pretty easy!

We haven't went for a couple of weeks, so we might be heading over there soon. Our AC went out again (due to a thunderstorm) but Praise the Lord for our window unit in emergencies!

Again, I am slowly starting to love the south because of places like these.. MINUS the humidity. I long to breathe fresh cool air outside again;)

Mama's Mission: August

I felt like it took a mission just to get on here and write this blog! But here I am, ready to set some goals for August.

For July my Mission was:

get a good two months in before our family visits at the end of August.
trying to organize and throw out any Homeschool Books I don't need anymore.
Mission to find two small bookshelf/ dressers. (Lord willing! I have been scanning Garage Sales and Thrift Stores) I need them for organizing library books and supplies.

I am happy to report:

I have still have to get through August with homeschool and maybe September. We plan on schooling till family visits. Come soon Wendi!
I did get rid of more books and it felt great. Even had a small garage sale. The girls made more money on their cookies than I did;).. but hey, it got us to purge the rest.
And I found a side table at Goodwill for pens, color crayons, markers and homework the kids need in their reach. It was only $10.

Now WHAT DO I DO FOR AUGUST? Do you ever feel like their is so much to be done? I am so t i r e d. Where should I start... since I am in the mood to use these fun bullets, why not more? he he. My August Missions:

My midwife wants me to eat more protein. I will try to have eggs more at breakfast this month and maybe attend one of her yoga classes;)
I am hoping to find a read through the bible chart for Elijah and Lydia. Today I was so aware how we have let this slip from our current routine.
Thus, I want to read to all the kids more. Read the bible and fiction books. We check out so many library books I have plenty to read to them!
Lastly, I get to do a movie review and it needs to be posted by August 8th! Check back!

So here I go.. Lets see how I do!
